NEWSUBSTANCE and SKYMAGIC have built a global presence creating aerial drone light displays at high profile live events.

Having made its home in West Yorkshire in 2004, creative studio NEWSUBSTANCE launched its dedicated drone light show division SKYMAGIC.

NEWSUBSTANCE has an impressive track record of designing, fabricating and delivering innovative creative installations around the world for the likes of Coachella Festival, Dubai’s EXPO 2020, Mumford & Sons and Riot Games.

SKYMAGIC has also built an impressive global presence, creating artistic aerial drone light displays at high-profile live events and for global brands, including the late Queen’s Jubilee celebrations at Buckingham Palace, ‘The Silence of Light’ at Hegra as part of AIUla Wellness Festival in Saudi Arabia, the London New Year’s Eve shows, and numerous global launches for big brands including Paramount+.

With offices in Europe and Asia, SKYMAGIC has been able to push the boundaries of artistic performance, harnessing the latest cutting-edge drone technologies to deliver spectacular entertainment and tell stories for their clients around the globe.

“We work all over the world and are proud to be based in Leeds and in West Yorkshire, and to add to the region’s rich history of innovation, creativity and to its engineering heritage."

“Leeds is a superb place to work, it is a vibrant city with a great community and we love being based here. Easy access to London and to the US and the Middle East are really important for us and Leeds really delivers here, with its own airport and close proximity to Manchester Airport."

“In recent years, the city and the region have become a hotbed of creative talent, and we’ve worked closely with the universities across the city, providing student placements to draw on a range of backgrounds and skills within the arts and creative industries. A number of our interns have gone on to become hugely valuable permanent members of our team. From our base in Leeds city centre, our team are able to work on some of the biggest and most exciting projects in the world and to enjoy the excellent quality of life that West Yorkshire offers."

“Looking to the future, while we may open new offices globally, particularly through SKYMAGIC, there’s no doubt that Leeds will remain the core of the business. We have just setup a US office for SKYMAGIC and will be flying there in early 2023. With the US due to host the FIFA World Cup in 2026, followed by the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028, there are huge opportunities to establish ourselves as one of the leading providers of live drone shows in North America.”
